Juneteenth Celebrating Freedom graphic

Juneteenth is a federal holiday observed on June 19 that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.

It marks the day in 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved people were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued.

Today, Juneteenth is both a celebration of freedom and a time to reflect on Black history, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.
