Innovators Robotics earns top honors at regional tournament
The Lincoln Middle School Innovators Robotics Team is headed to the state robotics competition after a standout performance at Saturday’s regional tournament. Competing against 18 teams from across the area, the Innovators earned first place in the Teamwork Challenge and the Judges’ Award for collaboration and problem-solving.
Students spent months designing, building, and programming their robot to complete a series of complex tasks on the competition field. Between rounds, they presented their engineering notebook and answered questions from judges about their design process, coding decisions, and teamwork strategies.
“Our students showed incredible creativity and resilience,” said coach Maria Hernandez, a sixth-grade science teacher. “They debugged code on the fly, made last-minute design tweaks, and supported one another every step of the way.” The state competition will take place next month at Central State University, where the team will represent Springfield School District.
